(Inspiration for the ‘I’m sorry tree’ comes from the Gospel story of Zacchaeus)

Let the Bells Ring Out!
Sunday, February 19th 2017

Coinciding with the restoration of the ‘Joy Bells’ in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford, Ashbourne-Donaghmore Parish will join with churches around the country on Sunday, 19th March as our church bell will toll from 2-3pm.

In the summer of 2014, a fascist demonstration was organised in the area surrounding Vasteras Cathedral in Sweden.  As the rally began, the cathedral bells tolled loud and clear over the city, drowning out the sounds of hate and racism.

We hope our parishioners will join in this ecumenical gesture of solidarity where the sound of our parish bell will herald joy, not hate; welcome, not exclusion; co-responsibility, not exploitation; peace, not violence.  We invite people to drop in to the church between 2-3pm, spend some quiet time in prayer with Christians across the country, light a candle as a light of hope and peace, or avail of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  All welcome.

Sacramental Preparation Programme Enrolment 2017
Sunday, February 19th 2017

Parents with children in non-Catholic schools currently in Senior Infants who wish their children to begin preparation to receive First Holy Communion in 2019 are invited to attend an information evening, Wednesday 15th March in Ashbourne Church:

Educate Together National School, 7.30pm

Gaelscoil na Mí, 8.30pm

The Parish is currently making preparations for the provision of sacramental classes for parents with children in non-Catholic schools entering 5th class in September 2017 who wish their children to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2019.  As the Parish is assessing the demand for the Sacrament and the need for a programme, contact should be made with the Parish Office immediately expressing a desire to enrol in a Confirmation Programme.  Please note: As the Sacrament of Confirmation completes initiation as members of the Catholic Church, notice of enrolment for this Sacrament will only be advertised in the Parish Newsletter.  Please notify friends or neighbours who may attend Mass in other parishes.  As the Sacrament of Confirmation is administered through English, this programme will be delivered exclusively through English.

Christmas Fuel Appeal – Congratulations & Thanks!
Saturday, February 4th 2017

A fantastic achievement by the 6th Meath Ashbourne Beaver Scouts:  Leading up to Christmas they were busy making Yule Logs to sell in order to raise money for the Ashbourne-Donaghmore Parish Fuel Appeal. They presented a cheque for €370 to Fr. Derek which will provide fuel for needy families in our community.  Thank you to all the boys and girls and their leaders – well done!

New Year’s Resolution

Let’s Get More Involved in Our Parish!

Every year, in the run up to New Year’s Day, most of us set about making New Year’s Resolutions.  These resolutions often include a new diet or a get-fit regime or giving up certain bad habits, volunteering for various charities etc. – all very noble efforts!  This year, why not consider making a new resolution in another important area of life, namely, in the active support of your local Christian community in our parish.  Our parish has many and varied ministries, all of which are in need of fresh volunteers, each with their own gifts of generosity and commitment to share with the Lord and with his people.

Please consider a way in which your time and enthusiasm and availability can give greater glory to God, and help to make our parish more vibrant, alive and inclusive?  Getting involved in one or more parish ministries is a great way to give back to the Lord and to serve others in your community.  Of course, being an authentic disciple of Christ isn’t all about our Sunday presence and action in Church, rather it shines out in every loving effort we make during the week.  However, using our gifts and time and talent for Christ and for his Church on Sundays is an excellent way to set up our whole week in service and in love.

BPlease think and pray this over, and then fill out the form below and return it to the Parish Office or place it in the collection basket during any Sunday Mass?  Contact will then be made by a member of the Parish Team.  Thank you for considering this urgent New Year Resolution to help bring our parish more alive!
