Monthly Prayer, January 2012

Heavenly Father, as the New Year begins we place ourselves, our families and all our endeavours under the loving protection of Mary, Holy Mother of God. With the Magi we place our gifts for You into her hands. Help us to respond generously to Her urging to “do whatever He tells you” by using our talents to serve You to the best of our ability. Father, at the Baptism of Jesus, Your Son, You sent The Holy Spirit to proclaim Jesus’ divinity and ask us to “Listen to Him”. May our New Year resolutions bring us closer to You and make us helpful to our neighbour.

Help us to appreciate the importance of spending time regularly in quiet prayer so as to hear what You have to say to us. And may we resolve also to come more regularly to the Holy Eucharist to receive the nourishment necessary for our souls. And when we fail You and our neighbour give us the courage and humility to ask forgiveness in the sacrament of Your mercy.

Jesus, as Your Church prays for the unity of Your flock in one fold under one shepherd, may all Christians acknowledge that unity is the fruit of love and nothing is impossible to God. May the dedication of Christians to peace give witness to the love of Jesus, the light of life, to a world so much in need of light and love.

Lord, bless all who generously help victims of natural disasters to rebuild their lives through spiritual and material support. Holy martyrs and teachers of the church intercede for the church in our beloved country that it may experience the tenderness of the healing hand of Jesus, renewal, and the flourishing of vocations once more.

Graphic of people holding hands around a cross.May this coming year make each one of us grateful for the necessities of life and teach us to reach out to those who do not share such blessings. May those who are depressed or worried about tomorrow come to depend on You as do the ‘lilies of the field and the birds of the air’, secure in the knowledge that when we set our hearts on Your Kingdom everything we need will be provided for us.

Sacred Heart of Jesus I trust in You. Amen

The Hail Mary

The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
That never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
Implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,
O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen.

V. O Mary conceived without sin,
R. Pray for us who have recourse to you.

Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy; hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.
O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death and resurrection,
has purchased for us the reward of eternal life;
grant, we beseech you, that, meditating upon these mysteries,
in the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may both imitate what they contain,
and obtain what they promise through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Novena

Sacred Heart of Jesus I trust in Thee.
My Lord and my God, I believe all that thou hast ever taught us. There is nothing harder for me to believe than Thy Personal love for one so sinful and so worthless as I, but I so believe it Lord, and therefore, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee.

I believe that thy love for me is not an affair of yesterday; “ Thou hast loved me with an everlasting love” and therefore, O Sacred Heart of Jesus I place all my trust in Thee.

I believe Thy love for me is as tender as a Mother’s love, and therefore, O Sacred Heart of Jesus I place all my trust in Thee.

I believe thou hast planned everything that shall ever happen to me, lovingly and wisely, and therefore, O Sacred Heart of Jesus I place all my trust in Thee.

I will never seek pleasure forbidden by Thee, because thou knowest what is bad for me and what is good , and I trust in Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I will always pray, “May Thy will be done in all things”, because I trust in Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I will never lose heart in my efforts to be good, because I trust in Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I will accept the crosses of life, as I accept the joys with a grateful heart, because I trust in Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I will not be worried or anxious about anything, because I trust in Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus.

However weak or sinful I may be, I will never doubt Thy mercy, because I trust in Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus.
