Patron for October – Our Lady of The Most Holy Rosary

olrThis Feast was instituted by Pope Pius V in 1570 in thanksgiving for the deliverance of the Christians from the Turks at the Battle of  Lepanto.  The victory is commemorated in the prayer to Our Lady Help of Christians in the Litany of Loreto.  In 1716 Pope Clement XI decreed it a universal feast.  The Rosary is said to have been given to St Dominic by Our Lady.  It is both a vocal and contemplative based on the mysteries of redemption and is easily prayed by everyone including children.  October is the month of the Holy Rosary so we might resolve to say it daily, teach it to the children, learn the Mysteries of Light added by Pope St John Paul II, read the encyclicals and Papal documents on the Rosary, and recite the Litany of Our Lady.  Some  intentions for which we might pray—peace between East and West, relief for those cursed by war, protection for our country from disaster and war, the return of sinners to Christ in Confession and conversion of those who do not know Jesus.  If we are in the habit of praying five decades we might try to say the fifteen mysteries as Our Lady desires.  The Rosary is the chain which binds the dragon ( Satan ) Rev: 20:1-2.

Mary Most Holy, Lady of The Most Holy Rosary, Help of Christians, I place myself and my loved ones under your care.  As Baby Jesus was carried in your young and loving arms we too entrust ourselves to you knowing that you hear and respond to our every cry also.  As you held Him close on the dangerous journey to exile in Egypt we know that you will keep us and all who flee persecution safe too.  Mary, Mother of the suffering Church on earth, stand by us as you stood by Jesus on Calvary.  Pray for us that we understand the signs of the times and find the wisdom to act with generosity, courage and fortitude to work together to sustain our families and our neighbours in the days ahead.  Above all we pray you help all who find it difficult to do so to avail of the healing grace of the Sacrament of Confession in this Year of Divine Mercy.  And for those who do not yet know Jesus help us to be the lights that lead them to The Eternal Light.

St Teresa of Avila teach us to pray from the depths of our hearts.  Lead us deep into union with God.  Pray for all contemplatives especially the Carmelites.  Mary mother of the Apostles from whom St. Luke received the Gospel, through his prayer and that of your beloved son Pope St. John Paul II hear our prayer for all who strive to spread  the joy and knowledge of the Gospel.  St Therese of the Child Jesus patron of the missions pray for them.

Mary we entrust to you all journalists that mammon, which bends the truth to its agenda may not erase it especially in matters of critical import for the common good in our country at this time.  Help journalists and those in public office to see the wisdom of God’s law and the courage to  stand out from the crowd.

St Ignatius of Antioch intercede for the people of Syria.  All you holy saints and Irish martyrs whose feasts we celebrate this month pray for us that we may not be put to the test.

Angels of God who protect and guide us through life thank you for your loving attention, for the times you prompt us to do good and avoid evil, for the times you deliver  us from physical danger.  When we get distracted at prayer  help us to focus.  When we need assistance from others kindly smooth the way for us by speaking to their guardian angels on our behalf.  Stay with us always until you lead us through the gates of Heaven. Angelo Roncalli – Pope St John XXIII -pray for us. Amen
